Fee digging

Join us at the Summit!

Ever feel a bit jealous when you see other people finding beautiful gemstones in YouTube videos? Now you can join in on the exciting hunt for rare Oregon sunstone in person!

We have 5 tables set up for our fee-digging guests, all of which can be reserved ahead of time. You can also choose to dig directly in the wall where some of the first stones on the claim were discovered!

Guests without reservations are welcome as well, but please understand that we can only host a limited number of people at one time.

Important notes

• Real mining involves an element of luck. No guarantees are made or implied for the quantity, quality, or value of the stones found.
• The mine is open from 9AM to 5PM
• Payment is required at time of reservation. Reservation requests without payment will be cancelled after 10 minutes.
• If you need to cancel/reschedule, please send an email to sunsummitsunstones@gmail.com
• All fee digging will be cancelled/rescheduled in the case of dangerous weather conditions (lightning, etc.)
• Reliable cellular service is not available at the mine.
• Water is not available at the mine. We suggest bringing at least 1 gallon of water per person per day.
• No camping sites are available at the mine. We recommend that guests camp at the public collection area or in Lakeview

Directions to the Mine

• GPS Coordinates (42.819062, -119.872716). This is our “driveway”. Look for the red cinder colored road.
• Use Google maps to get directions to the intersection of Hwy 395 and Hogback road.
• Enter Hogback road and follow it for about 7 miles. Take a sharp left turn. This is Corn Lake Rd. Follow Corn Lake Rd for about 12 miles. At about the 8 mile point, there will be an intersection on the right with a sign pointing to the “Sunstone Area”. Do not turn, you need to keep on going straight.
• After you pass the sign, the road condition will worsen. Drive slow and avoid spinning your tires to reduce the risk damage. We strongly recommend carrying at least one full size spare tire, a floor jack, and driving an SUV or truck with at least 8″ of clearance.
• Watch out to the left (north) as you approach 12 miles from the first turn onto Corn Lake road. You will see our trailers up on the hill.
• Turn left at our driveway and drive until it forks. Stay to the left and come up to our parking area. Welcome to the mine!
